The Village at Newark is a 421,538SF multi-story high-rise complex that includes 221 off-campus student apartments, 812 beds, a community center, retail space and parking that will serve the NJIT, Rutgers and Science Park, NJ campuses.
The project occupies several parcels of land located along Central Avenue, Lock Street and a commuter rail line directly adjacent to the three campuses. The main structure is a u-shaped building with a central courtyard for vehicles and pedestrians with the open end of the "u" oriented towards the main campus. One portion of the building consists of 13-levels of residential student apartments. The portion of the building fronting Central Avenue and Lock Street is a total of 6-levels with 6,353-square feet of street level retail. There is a 5-level parking garage located behind the apartment building to the West.
The facility also features 13,429-square feet of community amenities such as a full fitness center with cardio machines, free weights and weight machines, tanning beds and locker rooms, a mini-theater, business center, game room and recreation area.
Initial occupancy occurred in August 2007.
