In June of 2004, Cooper University Hospital announced the expansion to Cooper's Health Sciences Campus to include a new Patient Care Pavilion as well as 54,000 SF of renovations in the existing adjacent facility. Granary Associates was selected to provide project management services for the most dramatic physical expansion of the hospital in nearly 30 years. Plans for the new pavilion focus on providing additional acute hospital services, shell space for future program development and the modernization / upgrade to existing services.
The basement level of the pavilion is dedicated to the relocated clinical Laboratory, which serves the hospital at large, the relocated Central Sterile Processing Department and the primary building infrastructure utility support space. The first floor of the pavilion will house relocated functions including the Main Lobby, Business Center, Patient Resource Center, Cooper Cafe, Cooper Court, Gift Shop, Vending and Security. Expansion and renovations will take place in the Emergency and Trauma Admitting Departments. The second floor of the pavilion contains relocated and expanded clinical Cardiology functions, while the third floor consists of partially relocated and expanded areas of the Surgical Suite, including Perioperative areas and PACU. The Adult Intensive Care Unit will be located on the fourth floor, and an additional Intensive Care Unit and Step-Down Nursing Unit will be located on the fifth floor. The sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth floors will all house Medical / Surgical Nursing Units.
The main entrance to the hospital will also be relocated to the new pavilion building. Work in this area will include roadwork, sidewalks, crosswalks, lawns and landscaping, benches, a drop-off canopy and terrace.
