Project role: project manager, planner, architect, interior designer
The Cancer Center, located on the campus of Divine Providence Hospital, was recently enhanced as part of Project 2012, Susquehanna Health's initiative to create a major referral destination center at The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center, as well as create major enhancements at Divine Providence Hospital and Muncy Valley Hospital. The Cancer Center, nearly tripled in size through Project 2012, now covers 38,000 SF. In addition to beautiful views of a Healing Garden and an overall soothing atmosphere for patients and their families, it features: [10] open and [8] private treatment areas in medical oncology; a patient and family resource library; visual therapy in all three radiation treatment rooms; and a hi-tech conference enter. World-class technology includes the Trilogy Stereotactic System that treats cancer and neurological lesions with image-guided radiotherapy and image-guided radiosurgery. The Trilogy also includes a high-powered medical linear accelerator.
The Cancer Center incorporates the theme of nature in its furnishings and design and makes extensive use of natural light, earth-friendly products and special lighting designed to create a calming mood. The main entrance to the Cancer Center was enlarged and is adjacent to a new education resources area, as well as a large conference center, and features artwork from artists in the local community. The family resource library provides a place for patients, visitors and staff to utilize resources about health topics including a wide variety of cancers and the various treatment options. The space provides views to the exterior and incorporates large amounts of natural light into its design, including a motif on the upper windows that creates diffused views. The area is multifunctional as a waiting area, resource room and gathering space for seminars.
