As a project management, architecture and design firm our commitment to the design and construction of projects that stand the test of time while pushing the margins towards a greater global good starts at home. Granary Associates' new corporate headquarters at 1500 Spring Garden, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was designed to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create a healthy, productive environment. The result is an award of LEED Silver Certification for the optimal balance of cost, environmental, societal and human benefits while meeting the mission and function of the space.
Specific design elements include using rapidly renewable materials like bamboo and linoleum flooring, low-flow and ultra low-flow plumbing fixtures, and energy efficient overhead and task lighting, which responds to the amount of natural light by dimming or turning off.
Entering from the elevators the main lobby and reception area feature recessed lighting, light bamboo flooring and neutral colors. From there guests enter an open lounge and hospitality area that offer stunning views of the Philadelphia Art Museum. In the design studio, employee workstations are equipped with low dividing walls allowing for light to easily flow through the office and also encourage a collaborative work environment. Mixed within the workstations are private offices and conference rooms all of which are interior and glass faced. These spaces provide a sense of personal space without inhibiting open communication throughout the floor. Also included throughout the space are adaptable reading areas and low, cushioned filing cabinets which help to make the space a beautiful place to entertain clients, as well as a comfortable place that fosters a good work/life balance for employees.
